Breast augmentation surgery and what you should know about it

True or false?

  1. Breast implants are a one time procedure. They'll last an entire life time.

  2. Breast augmentation is a minor procedure.

  3. Breast implants are 100% safe.

All these statements are a pack of lies. Take the first statement, about this being a one time procedure.

Many women think that once the implant is in, you can leave it there and forget about it. Nothing is further than the truth.

  1. Breast implants do NOT last forever. After 13 to 15 years, the incidence of rupture is 85%.

Meaning, you can expect to change implants a few times in your lifetime.

  2. Even if the operation goes well, the final result might not be what you want. In fact within the first 3 years of having the breast augmentation surgery, 13% to 21% of the women have a redo surgery.

  3. You need maintenance. Get them checked to make sure they're still good. You'd need maintenance in 10 to 15 years from the time you get the implants inserted. Worn out implants must be replaced.

As for breast augmentation being a minor procedure, I suggest you sit in on one such breast augmentation surgery as an onlooker and gauge for yourself whether it is minor or not.

For the record, most women who had that surgery liken the post surgery pain to being as bad being hit by a truck. A mom who had gone through previous surgeries as well as labour thought it would be a cinch but the pain on day one, when she awoke from the surgery, was so bad, she thought she had crippled herself. Anyway, if you do go for breast augmentation, be prepared for the pain once the anaesthetic wears off.
The worse lie is that breast implants are 100% safe. Here's the list of possible complications with breast enhancement surgery. In the first place, no surgery is 100% safe.

There is always an element of risk. For breast implants surgery, the risks include.

  1. Infection - a risk with every surgery.

  2. Reaction to the anaesthesia - also a risk with every surgery.

  3. Capsule contracture - Your body forms a capsule around the implant. This fibrous tissue, in normal cases, the pocket made for the implant should stay open. When capsular contrature occurs, the capsule tightens and squeezes the implant, leaving the breast hard, painful and fake-looking.

  4. Necrosis, or tissue death, though not a common complication is possible. If it happens, the dead tissue forms around the implant and can prevent wound healing.

In some cases, the implant has to be removed.

  5. Permanent loss of nipple sensation can oocur after surgery. It happens for 10% to 18% of the women with breast implants

  6. Implant deflation - about 4% of the implants deflate in the first year, with 1% per year in the following years.

  7. Hematoma - Considering breast surgery is done for its cosmetic effect, hematoma is one of the awful complications that can come with breast augmentation. Basically, the blood leaks out of the vessels and pools in the skin tissue, leading to a huge, ugly blood clot that can be painful.

With all these possible complications of breast implants, do you still want to go for it?
There are other ways of getting bigger breasts without surgery. If you just want cleavage for that special night out, you can always wear a padded bra. The liquid-filled bras are particularly realistic.
If you want your breasts to be bigger permanently, try natural breast enhancement. Sure, it takes time, but the results are worth it, plus, you avoid the risks that come with surgery.

Facial Cosmetic Surgery

Facial cosmetic surgery is the process of enhancing the appearance of the face through plastic surgery. Facial cosmetic surgery is done by qualified cosmetic surgeons to correct a part of the face that can be a cause of social embarrassment.

Facial cosmetic surgery can restructure protruding ears to complement the head and facial structure. Many facial cosmetic surgeons also practice facial implants to improve an area of the face or to bring uniformity on the face. Implants are commonly done on the chin, cheek and jaws.

Face lifting, or rhytidectomy, is another common facial cosmetic surgery that has appealed to many people who have wrinkles and sagging skin. Patients undergo face lifting to tighten and reposition the connective tissues and muscles on the face. They also trim the extra skin on the face to get better results. Face lifting drastically revives the freshness of the face. Another type of facial cosmetic surgery is the forehead lift...

A small history page about Plastic Surgery

Plastic surgery is a branch of surgery that involves the repair or replacement of malformed, injured or lost members or tissues of the body. The plastic surgery has two more major branches: the reconstructive and the cosmetic surgery. These types of plastic surgery differ from one to another in one main way: the reconstructive surgery is made to help reconstruct an injured tissue or a birth defect while the cosmetic plastic surgery deals only with form or appearance.

I will now present a short history lesson about plastic surgery. Although plastic surgery goes far as Ancient Egypt, the first real plastic surgery doctors were two Sicilians: Gustav and Antonio Branka.

They were father and son and they have managed to put the first brick on the plastic surgery wall by making basic guidelines which plastic surgeons should follow when doing a reconstructive nose surgery. The first man to actually create a center for Plastic surgery was another Italian: Taliakosi....

Permanent Cosmetic Convention in Atlantic City Focuses on Technician Education and Safe Protocols

Permanent Cosmetics is a largely unregulated field, with little or no formal standards or licensing. Consumer questions abound on the safety and quality of treatments and how to gauge a technician's qualifications. As more and more woman discover permanent cosmetics, the most common question is, "Are You licensed?"
Often they are told, "Yes" or "I am certified." Truth be told, almost no one is, because few states offer or require
licensing or education before performing permanent cosmetic application.
Many individuals in the field are concerned about setting standards, such as Roxanne Zarafonetis, CNMT, PA who is a Johns Hopkins Hospital trained Nuclear Medicine Technologist who entered the field of permanent cosmetics 15 years ago before todays' unregulated
"certification" schools, and allergic pigments were on the scene. In an effort to help set allied health compatible standards, Ms. Zarafonetis has acted as an advisor to the Board of Cosmetology...

The Swan on the Chopping Block

When Anderson wrote "The Ugly Duckling", he was imagining a natural transformation from awkward youth to mature beauty.
His vision did not include a meat cleaver.
The new network show, "The Swan" is a travesty on so many levels that it is difficult to know where to begin.
There is nothing wrong with using cosmetic surgery to correct a definitive flaw but to turn yourself over to megalomaniacs with scalpels is cause for more therapy than these women are receiving.
It is unconscionable that television should even consider anything so potentially damaging.

However, the women who allow themselves to be the golden goose (to mix metaphors) are equally to blame.
What sane women would with good conscience turn herself over to strangers without having any input into what is being done. The Swan reflects society's superficial attitude towards cosmetic surgery as a cure all for everything from natural aging to an unhealthy lifestyle.
