Cosmetic laser surgery is widely used in the field of dermatology, dentistry, cosmetic surgery and eye surgery. Cosmetic laser surgeries are preferred, as they enhance the person's appearance, the way he feels and also the ways he sees the world.

Cosmetic laser surgeries can help in removing wrinkles from the skin of old people. These wrinkles can be removed using a surgical process called laserbrasion, or facial resurfacing. This surgery gives you a wrinkle-free skin.

Cosmetic laser surgery is also used correct the drooping of the underlying fat of the upper eyelids. This is process is called blepharoplasty, in which surgeons use laser technology to remove a part of the skin that sags from the eyelid. People experiencing partial vision or problems in applying eye shadow often go for cosmetic laser surgery for eyelids. Transconjunctival lower-lid blepharoplasty is a process that helps get rid of the extra fat from the lower eyelid.

Cosmetic laser surgery also helps in resurfacing scars from chickenpox or acne.

The skin forms a fresh layer of collagen after the resurfacing has been done. The skin tightens after the surgery, giving a more fresh and radiant look. Nowadays, cosmetic laser surgery is being widely used for enlarged noses, which are a cause of embarrassment for many people. Many other types of cosmetic leaser surgeries are done to cure other kinds of skin conditions like seborrheic keratoses, warts, scars and keloids.

Cosmetic laser surgeries are undoubtedly effective in enhancing your appearance and giving you a new lease on life, but be aware of the aftereffects and side affects that such surgeries can cause.

It is wise to consult a qualified surgeon before undergoing cosmetic laser surgery to avoid any harmful side effects or aftereffects. .

The cost of Bariatric surgery can be quite high. The typical price of an operation can be $25,000 or more. Medical insurance coverage varies by state and insurance provider, and although some states have legislation in place that requires insurers to offer weight loss surgery for patients, providing it meets health criteria laid down by the National Institutes of Health, other states do not. This means that patients who would benefit from bariatric surgery often have to contend with providers that have not yet accepted that this kind of weight loss surgery can deliver powerful medical benefits that will save them money in the long run. A patient encountering this problem may have to work with his or her surgeon to prove to the health insurance provider that the proposed surgery is not a cosmetic procedure, but a potentially life-saving operation that will minimize future health problems.Individuals who are interested in bariatric surgery and are on Medicare will be glad to know that it covers weight loss surgery for morbidly obese patients with an obesity-related or condition.

Morbid obesity is defined as 100 or more pounds overweight or a body mass index (BMI) of 40 or more.Of course, the costs do not end once a patient successfully undergoes bariatric surgery. Because weight loss can be significant, many individuals are left with loose, sagging skin that no longer has the elasticity to fit the new, slimmer shape. Since neither exercise nor diet will help tighten loose skin, many bariatric patients choose plastic surgery as a remedy. The cost of bariatric-related plastic surgery operations can vary significantly, depending on the patient's condition, complications, the type of anesthesia, and other factors. Some of the more popular post-bariatric surgery procedures include: abdominoplasty (tummy tuck), body lift (circumferential panniculectomy), brachioplasty (arm lift), breast lift, augmentation, or reduction, face and/or neck lift, and thigh lift..

Los Angeles, CA (ContentDesk) August 13, 2005 -- There is no denying the continued popularity of cosmetic surgery and procedures: Americans are very interested in looking the best they can. As technology and surgical procedures improve, elective surgery has become a viable option for more and more people. Often, when people begin to consider cosmetic surgery they become interested in several procedures that would mean multiple operations. Now, as highlighted in many television shows, news segments and magazine articles, more people opt to combine procedures into one operation, saving costs and healing time periods as well as seeing the final results more quickly. While multiple procedures in one operation saved time and money, it was important to determine if there were drawbacks. Traditional surgical thinking believed prolonged anesthesia could increase risks or complications, but definitive data did not exist.

Dr. Grant Stevens, director of Marina Plastic Surgery, began to study complication rates in hundreds of patients who underwent cosmetic surgeries in the last ten years to determine if "extreme" cosmetic surgery posed extra complication. The findings were impressive: there was no statistically significant increase in minor or major complications. The study involved 248 patients over a ten-year period. Each of the patients received abdominoplasty surgery from Dr. Stevens.

The groups were divided into those who had abdominoplasty only, abdominoplasty with breast surgery, abdominoplasty with face-lift surgery, and abdominoplasty with both breast and face-lift surgery. While risks and complications are rare in surgery, they can happen and physicians always discuss adverse possibilities with their patients prior to surgery. Minor complications studied included seroma, hematoma, infection, and small wound infection. Major complications studied included bit was not limited to large flap necrosis, the necessity for blood transfusions, deep-vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolus, and myocardial infarction."No significant difference in morbidity or complication rates was found in the four different groups studied," said Dr. Stevens.

"Plus, the study shows that combined procedures may yield higher patient satisfaction." Combined procedures allow patients to see their results more quickly and require less time off from work.Dr. Stevens is quick to point out that he is a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon with over 25 years of surgical experience. "This combination of procedures should only be done by surgeons with proper training and experience," says Dr. Stevens. "I recommend that patients insist on a surgeon with certification by The American Board of Plastic Surgery and hospital privileges to perform this surgery as a minimum requirement.

I also recommend that the anesthesiologist be a Board Certified Medical doctor."In the past, each desired procedure would require a separate operation. This meant that the patient would need multiple periods of time off from work, multiple recovery periods, and multiple surgical costs. The final result could take months or a year to see. While patients would still be happy in the long run, there was a definite need to help simplify the process. Over the last 10 years, surgery has become safer and more efficient.

In addition, patients are requiring less time in the hospital. The need for overnight stays began to decline and more patients are being released the same day as their surgery."There are many advantages to combining procedures. A single recovery period and reduced surgery costs are two examples, but the biggest might be faster patient gratification," said Dr. Stevens. "A changing medical environment in conjunction with the high patient demand really encouraged the advancements that made combined procedures possible.

This study supports the safety of combined procedures performed by a Board Certified plastic surgeon."Dr. Grant Stevens is a California Board-Certified plastic surgeon and the Medical Director of Plastic Surgery Associates in Marina del Rey and Palos Verdes. He specializes in cosmetic plastic surgery and has been named one of America's Best Physicians in The Guide to Top Doctors. Dr. Stevens was nominated by his colleagues which makes this recognition especially prestigious and rewarding.

He is an active member at Daniel Freeman Marina Hospital where he was the Chairman of the Department of Surgery for 6 years and the co-director of the Breast Center. He is also on staff at St. John's Medical Center and the Marina Outpatient Surgery Center. The report "Extreme" Cosmetic Surgery: A Retrospective Study of Morbidity in Patients Undergoing Combined Procedures was published in the July / August 2004 issue of Aesthetic Surgery Journal.

Though we've heard the saying, "beauty is skin deep," we all like to look good. Being handsome or beautiful has definite advantages in when it comes to dating and marriage. Who doesn't like to have a Hollywood smile with white teeth? That's why dentistry offers the specialty ? cosmetic dentistry.

There are many cosmetic problems with gums and teeth that cosmetic dentists can rectify. Gaps can be closed between teeth, and chipped and broken teeth can be repaired.

Teeth can be whitened and crooked teeth can be straightened. Cosmetic dentistry is relatively new and has been taking the world by storm for the past ten years.

If you need cosmetic dentistry, you can look in your local phone book or online. Your first appointment will be a consult where your options will be explained to you, the type of treatment you will need, how long it will take and the cost. You will also find out if your insurance will cover the treatment.

Usually, the dentist will show "before and after" photographs of different smiles for you to decide on, and based on your decision, the dentist will develop a specific treatment plan.

The three most popular treatment options used by cosmetic dentists are porcelain veneers that are used to repair or enhance your front teeth. They can also be used to whiten the appearance of teeth, close gaps or straighten crooked teeth. The teeth whitening system uses gel to whiten the teeth. It lasts approximately 2 to 3 days. Dental implants are done to replace any tooth that is broken or missing and feel and look like normal teeth.

Invisalign is a method to straighten misaligned teeth without using braces. It takes nearly a year, to get this treatment completed.
Austin has a number of cosmetic dentists who can be contacted by using www.tda.org, the TDA website..

Plastic surgery is a branch of surgery that involves the repair or replacement of malformed, injured or lost members or tissues of the body. The plastic surgery has two more major branches: the reconstructive and the cosmetic surgery. These types of plastic surgery differ from one to another in one main way: the reconstructive surgery is made to help reconstruct an injured tissue or a birth defect while the cosmetic plastic surgery deals only with form or appearance.

I will now present a short history lesson about plastic surgery. Although plastic surgery goes far as Ancient Egypt, the first real plastic surgery doctors were two Sicilians: Gustav and Antonio Branka.

They were father and son and they have managed to put the first brick on the plastic surgery wall by making basic guidelines which plastic surgeons should follow when doing a reconstructive nose surgery. The first man to actually create a center for Plastic surgery was another Italian: Taliakosi. But the main develop in plastic surgery was during the World War I and II because of the huge number of soldiers with body and facial disfigurations. Reconstructive plastic surgery has been in some cases able to correct these injuries and regain functional abilities of those parts of the body. From then to now it has been in a constant evolution catalyzed by scientific achievements.

It is important to know that in the 80' plastic surgery had for many people a single meaning: breast enhancements.

This is why more and more women were asking for that kind of plastic surgery procedure. But really, plastic surgery is much more than that.

Nowadays, the plastic surgery is one of the most profitable businesses out there. Cosmetic surgery has now become more fashionable and it plays a great role in the mainstream.

It is known that almost every Hollywood celebrity has used in some way plastic surgery.

In our modern society that puts a high price on an individual look, plastic surgery helps people getting a nice outward appearance along with self-confidence.

Cosmetic surgery is now so common, it's almost commonplace. Cosmetic surgical procedures are used to correct everything from disfigurements that are the result of an accident to physical features that are perceived to be less than perfect. In some cases, cosmetic surgery can help to correct not only a physical trait but help to raise a person's self-esteem as well. There are a number of different cosmetic surgery options. The most common cosmetic surgical procedures involve redefining some aspect of the body, while others involve enhancing the skin through a variety of measures. Liposuction is a very popular cosmetic surgery option.

This procedure allows the physician to suction the fat off various portions of the body to reveal slimmer and trimmer physique.Rhinoplasty is a cosmetic surgery procedure in which the nose is reshaped. Some patients request this surgery because they perceive their nose to be either too big or an unattractive shape. In other cases, the procedure may be necessary to help a patient breathe better.Implants is a term that is used frequently in regard to cosmetic surgery, however; besides it's obvious application to the breast area implants are also used to enhance other body parts. The chin and cheekbones are two areas where are implants are frequently used to redefine a patient's profile. There are a variety of cosmetic surgery procedures that can be done to enhance the breast area. Implants are used frequently to increase a patient's bust size.

While the subject of breast implants received much bad press several years ago due to the fact that silicone breast implants were proven to be unsafe, the products used today are considered to be much safer. Lifts are often necessary to correct breasts that sag and droop. Augmentation may be utilized in order to align the breasts so that they are the same size when there is a situation where one breast is smaller than the other. While some patients wish to undergo cosmetic surgery in order to increase their bust size, others have a breast reduction in order to reduce their breast size. This is often necessary when a woman has very large breasts that may cause health issues such as back pain and strain on the neck and shoulders. The cosmetic surgery frequently referred to as a tummy tuck is similar to liposuction in that it removes excess fat from the area around the stomach and waist. Patients who have lost significant amounts of weight may find it necessary to have this procedure performed as well as an arm lift or buttock/thigh lift.

When an individual loses large amounts of weight, particularly at a rapid rate, the skin generally begins to sag and no amount of exercise is able to tone the sagging skin. These types of cosmetic surgical procedures can tighten the skin. While there are a variety of cosmetic surgery options available today that can correct almost any skin or body problem, it is important for patients to have realistic expectations. First, some cosmetic surgeries will leave permanent scars. The prospective patient must weigh the advantages and disadvantages of having a permanent scar against living with the issue that drove them to consider surgery. Secondly, it is very important that the patient realize that cosmetic surgery does not produce overnight results.

Some surgeries will not produce optimal results until at least a year after the surgery was performed. Finally, as with all surgeries, cosmetic surgery does come with inherent risks and dangers. The information contained in this article is for educational purposes only and is not intended to medically diagnose, treat or cure any disease.

(ContentDesk) November 28, 2005 -- The potential acquisition of Inamed (IMDC) by Allergan (AGN) would create a cosmetic surgery powerhouse that could dominate the US facial aesthetics market. If Mentor Corporations (MNT) bid for Medics (MRX) is also successful, this partnership will bring forth the second-largest competitor in this market, thus creating a strong duopoly in the US cosmetic surgery marketplace.Although Medicis was the first company to propose a merger with Inamed in March 2005, its bid was plagued by Federal Trade Commission (FTC) anti-trust allegations because the combined company would capture nearly 100% of the hyaluronic acid (HA) and collagen dermal filler markets. This left open the opportunity for Allergans unsolicited bid for Inamed on November 15th, valued at $3.2 billion. The Allergan offer is more likely to close not only because it has a higher dollar value, but also because it is unlikely to raise anti-trust concerns with the FTC. In particular, Allergan announced the planned divestment of Inameds developmental-stage botulinum toxin (BTX) product, Reloxin, following the completion of the deal.

Less than 1 week following Allergans bid for Inamed, Mentor announced an unsolicited bid for Medicis valued at $2.2 billion. This bid reflects Mentors concerns about the competitive landscape of the US facial aesthetic market in 2006. Firstly, the combined Allergan-Inamed entity would control nearly 70% of the US facial aesthetics market, offering physicians complete surgical and nonsurgical cosmetic solutions. Moreover, the merger would threaten Mentors planned market introduction of HA and BTX products in 2006 and 2008, respectively. By acquiring Medicis, Mentor will ensure its access to the US market through a company that has already captured over 25% of the US facial aesthetics market, mainly due to Medicis popular Restylane dermal filler.

A more detailed analysis of the potential acquisitions and other dynamic changes taking place in the US facial aesthetics industry can be found in the December issue of MRGs Medical Industry Intelligence (MII). A leading source of competitive intelligence, MRG is now the largest provider of medical device market research in the world.

The more involved and more popular combination-procedure gastric bypass surgery involves stapling the stomach to make it smaller and reattaching the small intestine to bypass a portion responsible for the majority of calorie and nutrient absorption.Gastric bypass surgery is only available to the morbidly obese (more than 100 pounds overweight) who have been obese for more than 5 years and shown a serious effort to lose their excess weight through not surgical methods such as diet and exercise.Surgery in any form is risk-inherent and gastric bypass surgery can result in complications. Complications of gastric bypass surgery include infection, leaking of the stomach resulting from a failed staple, respiratory problems, and hernias. The most serious of these is a gastrointestinal leak that happens in 1 out of 20 cases. The resulting infection, if not caught quickly and treated accurately, can be fatal.Complications of gastric bypass surgery rarely result in death but the death rate hovers around 1.9%. When considering this, remember that gastric bypass surgery patients are already in a very unhealthy state and their bodies are not in a condition to fight off serious infections that do sometimes occur even in routine surgery.

The risk of complications of gastric bypass surgery must be compared to the risks of living morbidly obese, which is a deadly condition that will eventually result in severe disabilities and early death..

(ContentDesk) March 18, 2006 -- More than 10.2 million cosmetic plastic surgery procedures were performed in the United States in 2005, up only 11 percent from 2004, according to statistics released today by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS). In addition, more than 5.4 million reconstructive plastic surgery procedures were performed last year. This means that plastic surgeons are also busy doing reconstructive work, not just cosmetic surgery.Surgical cosmetic procedures increased 4 percent, with more than 1.8 million procedures performed in 2005. The top five surgical procedures were liposuction (324,000), nose reshaping (298,000), breast augmentation (291,000), eyelid surgery (231,000), and tummy tuck (135,000). This is the first time in six years facelifts did not make the top five surgical procedures.Minimally-invasive cosmetic procedures jumped 13 percent to nearly 8.5 million procedures performed in 2005.

The top five minimally-invasive procedures were Botox? (3.8 million), chemical peel (1 million), microdermabrasion (838,000), laser hair removal (783,000), and sclerotherapy (590,000). This is the fourth consecutive year that these minimally-invasive procedures have been ranked in the top five.Reconstructive plastic surgery, which improves function and appearance to abnormal areas of the body, remained relatively stable in 2005. The top five reconstructive procedures were tumor removal (3.9 million), laceration repair (344,000), scar revision (181,000), hand surgery (172,000) and breast reduction (114,000).The statistics show that in a solid economy, more Americans are willing to invest in anti-aging remedies such as cosmetic plastic surgery, says Dr. Sam Speron, plastic surgery expert and consumer advocate. For many, cosmetic plastic surgery is the new take on growing old gracefully. The facelift is still a highly sought after procedure with nearly 109,000 procedures being performed last year.

However, the fact it did not make the top five surgical procedures can probably be attributed to increased consumer demand for minimally-invasive injectable wrinkle fillers and fighters as a remedy to combat facial aging.Dr. Sam Speron is a Chicago Plastic Surgeon and is widely recognized as a leading expert on plastic surgery. Dr. Sperons educational efforts have received critical acclaim from the media from around the country including radio (The Paul Harvey show on WGN radio), local TV (multiple CBS Channel 2 10PM special reports, multiple appearances on This week with Dr. Breen), national television (Discovery Health Channel), local radio (The Joe Gentile Show on WJJG on AM-1530, KFIZ Milwaukee with Joe Scheibinger), newspapers (Chicago Tribune, Chicago Sun Times, Crains Chicago Business, Daily Herald), US magazines (People, The Complete Woman, Chicago Magazine, Living Life, Satisfaction, Medical Economics, The Lutheran), international magazines (Company, Europe) and online news (plasticsurgery.com, LocateaDoc.com, HealthNewsDigest.com, cosmeticsurgery.com, ChicagoHealthandFitness.com, ToursandTales.com).Please visit us at www.prplastic.com, call us at 847.696.9900 for a plastic surgery question or consultation..
